The United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM or AFRICOM) is a new Unified Combatant Command being created by the United States military, to cover Africa and is being arranged to be fully operational by September 2008. But Africa says No! Thanks but no thanks.
A read of recent history clearly reminds of the real dangers. The US government has destroyed many countries. A quick example is South America, and this is no lending hands with internal struggles... the US has capitalized on internal struggles to overthrow governments by supporting guerrillas...so they could implant governments that were more favorable to the U.S policies. (They may even use a skirmish as an excuse to plant a military installation there.) And more often than not those countries are left crippled and the quality of life for individuals deteriorates.
Sad to bring up is the recent Iraq example. Saddam Hussein was terrible and a ruthless despot who ruled with an iron fist, no doubt, but at least his people had running water, energy, food, and relative security. Now all that's left are shortages of basic amenities and chaos. That region may never see peace again. Ironically, the US government has created more enemies. Somalia is another unfortunate example. We believe in limited, non-interventionist government. We must save our motherland.
